About Beech Island, SC - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Beech Island is an unincorporated community in the southern portion of South Carolina. The community takes its name from Beech Island, which was formerly a nearby island. The community is quiet and safe and the weather is beautiful all year round. The small town is the perfect place to raise kids and enjoy a quiet, slow-paced life. It is near enough to Augusta, Georgia to be convenient to hospitals, large retail centers, etc. But, it is also far enough out to allow you to feel that you are truly in the country.
Prior to the 1950’s, Beech Island was primarily an agrarian community with cotton, wheat, corn, and soybean as the major crops. This changed with the construction of Urquhart Station Power Station and the nearby Savannah River Nuclear Project, as new highways and roads were constructed for commuters. After that, commerce grew steadily and the community began to change. Today, it retains its charm and historical beauty. Walking around you can’t help but feel that you are experiencing a very truly Southern town. Perhaps that is what drew Beech Island's most famous resident, James Brown. Brown lived there for the last years of his life on a 60-acre estate. His mansion and estate still sit on the land, though he passed away.
The nearby town of North Augusta is a lovely place to visit should you find yourself in the area. It is similar to Beech Island in its slow pace and beauty, but is a busier town with a closer access to Augusta, Georgia. North Augusta offers its inhabitants and tourists all of the benefits of an urban life without many of the downfalls like racket, corruption, and bigger schools. It retains a small town appeal that can’t be bought or recreated, but is entrenched within its culture, architecture and values. Situated along the Savannah River, North Augusta also offers many water sport opportunities. With an average temperature of 62.7 degrees throughout the year, the weather is always perfect for some boating, fishing or for a walk along the riverside.
